Mulberry House is the realized dream of Brooklyn mom and educator, Suzanne Cotton. Originally from the Midwest, Suzanne moved to New York City 20 years ago to pursue a master's degree at Manhattan School of Music. In the years that followed, Suzanne met her husband and completed another master's degree in early childhood education. Before having three children of her own, Suzanne worked as a lead teacher, curriculum developer, and summer program director for a Manhattan preschool. Prior to opening Mulberry House, Suzanne furthered her studies in the Reggio Emilia Approach in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Suzanne currently teaches alongside her wonderful co-teachers five days a week, and documents the magic of Mulberry House on Instagram @mulberry_house_playschool. Recently, Suzanne’s online professional development courses have inspired early childhood educators from around the globe. She is passionate about nurturing families in community and strongly values the unique joy and wonder of early childhood.
Teacher Lucy (she/they)
Collaborative Teacher, Atelierista, Extended Day
Lucy is an artist and educator living in Bushwick. Before joining the Mulberry House team, Lucy taught infants and toddlers at Ekford Street Studio, was on staff at Camp Unirondack in upstate New York, and served as a literacy/conversation teacher at Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees. Lucy holds a Master’s Degree in Art Education from Pratt Institute and a BA in Liberal Studies from The New School. While at Pratt, Lucy wrote her thesis on play and choice-based art education with a strong focus on the Reggio Emilia Approach. Lucy has incredible passion and enthusiasm for children, art, and her community.
Ms. Veronica (she/her)
Bilingual Collaborative Teacher
Veronica is a bilingual educator and a scholar with wealth of classroom and private care experience. Prior to Mulberry House, Veronica taught in a play-based classroom for children ages 2-4 and continues to nanny privately. She is currently pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education with a focus in Mathematics at Queens College. Veronica is fluent in English and Spanish and enriches our program by offering both languages to our children. Veronica brings her warm, calm, consistent, and nurturing presence to Mulberry House each day.
Ms. Alausi (she/her)
Bilingual Collaborative Teacher, Extended Day
Alausi is an educator with teaching experience in Waldorf classrooms, Reggio-inspired schools, and Forest schools. Alausi has a degree in Spanish and brings her love of the language to our young learners. In addition to her classroom work, Alausi has a wealth of experience as a private caregiver and as a tutor for refugee children. Alausi is a consistent presence in our extended day program where her joyful and gentle approach fosters connection and security for our children.
Teacher Scout (they/them)
Bilingual Collaborative Teacher, Extended Day
As a classroom teacher, Scout has experience with infants, toddlers and preschoolers. In life, they've worked with all age groups: mentoring, teaching, and providing care. In addition to their education experience, Scout holds degrees in psychology and Spanish. A true linguist, Scout is also proficient in American Sign Language and offers this valuable communication opportunity to our children. Scout is passionate about knowing children for who they are and values each child as a treasured member of our community.
